India Implements Major Labor Reforms and Digital Data Protection Rules, Alongside Key Social Initiatives

India has ushered in a new era of labor governance with the implementation of four comprehensive Labour Codes, effective November 21, 2025, consolidating 29 existing laws to streamline regulations and enhance worker welfare. Simultaneously, the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules, 2025, have been notified, fully operationalizing the DPDP Act, 2023, to establish a robust framework for data privacy. In other significant developments, the Delhi government has launched initiatives like the 'Atal Canteen' scheme for affordable meals and commenced a study to refine its elderly pension scheme. The 21st installment of the PM-KISAN scheme has also been disbursed, providing financial assistance to eligible farmers, and efforts continue to simplify the submission of Digital Life Certificates for pensioners.
