This innovative tool, created by the S N Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences in collaboration with Ashoka University, analyzes cancer at a molecular level to enable highly personalized treatment strategies and more accurate diagnoses. OncoMark moves beyond traditional cancer staging by identifying biological hallmarks that drive tumor growth, aggressiveness, and resistance to therapy. It is a machine learning framework trained on 3.1 million single cells from 14 different cancer types and has demonstrated over 99% accuracy in internal testing and maintained 96%+ accuracy across independent patient datasets. This advancement marks a crucial step in India's contribution to precision medicine, tailoring treatments based on a tumor's molecular behavior.

NISAR Satellite Beams Back First Images of India

The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite has commenced its science operations, beaming back its first high-resolution images of the Indian landmass. Launched on July 30, 2025, aboard ISRO's GSLV-F16, the $1.5 billion dual-frequency radar satellite successfully unfurled its massive 12-meter diameter antenna reflector. The initial S-Band SAR image captures the lush Godavari River Delta in Andhra Pradesh, providing vivid details of mangroves, agricultural fields, and aquaculture ponds. Orbiting at 747 km, NISAR scans nearly all land and ice surfaces every 12 days, detecting centimeter-scale changes crucial for disaster alerts, ecosystem tracking, and climate insights. This milestone solidifies the Indo-US partnership in Earth observation and positions NISAR as a game-changer for precise environmental data.

India's Private Space Sector Soars with Skyroot Aerospace and Vikram-I

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated Skyroot Aerospace's Infinity campus in Hyderabad and unveiled India's first commercial orbital rocket, Vikram-I. This event signifies a major leap for India's private space sector, with PM Modi emphasizing the nation's trajectory to become a global leader in the satellite launch ecosystem. The state-of-the-art Infinity facility spans 2 lakh sq ft and is designed to develop, integrate, and test multiple launch vehicles, with a capacity to build one orbital rocket every month. The Vikram series, named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the founder of the Indian Space Program, aims to launch satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

Advancing National AI Capabilities with BharatGen

India has launched a significant AI mission focused on the BharatGen multilingual model, aiming to foster an inclusive digital future where every Indian language and dialect is represented within the country's AI ecosystem. This initiative aligns with broader national goals to establish India as a global leader in frontier technologies. Supported by the Department of Science and Technology through the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems, BharatGen has received substantial funding, including an additional INR 1,058 crores (US$118 million) from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the India AI Mission. The project involves a consortium of institutions like IIT-Madras, IIT-Kanpur, and Ashoka University, emphasizing cooperation with private players, central ministries, and state departments to refine the model for practical deployment.

Boosting Research and Innovation through ANRF

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, highlighted the pivotal role of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) in propelling India's global research and innovation ambitions. During a comprehensive review, Dr. Singh noted that India is transitioning towards a "whole-of-government and whole-of-society" Research and Development model, where various stakeholders including ministries, industry, startups, and academia collaboratively shape the national innovation landscape. This strategic approach aims to strengthen India's position as a global research powerhouse.

International Investment and India's Tech Potential

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced that the four-nation European Free Trade Association (EFTA) bloc has committed to invest USD 100 billion in India, primarily across innovation and precision manufacturing. Goyal emphasized India's cost-competitiveness in research and innovation and highlighted the nation's strong potential in emerging areas such as applied artificial intelligence, automation, robotics, and deep-tech innovation, driven by its large number of STEM graduates and widespread internet access. Initiatives like the USD 12 billion Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) fund and support for startups are set to further accelerate India's innovation ecosystem.
