Cricket: Injury Concerns for Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant Steps Up

In a significant development for Indian cricket, star opener Shubman Gill is expected to be sidelined for an extended period due to a serious nerve injury. Reports indicate that he is likely to miss the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against South Africa and might not return to action until next year. This injury also saw him ruled out of the 2nd Test against South Africa in Guwahati, where he had suffered a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata.

In Gill's absence, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has taken over the captaincy for the ongoing 2nd Test against South Africa in Guwahati. Pant, along with KL Rahul, is also being considered for the stop-gap captaincy role for the white-ball series against the Proteas. Another key player, Shreyas Iyer, is also out of contention until March due to a spleen laceration.
