November 12, 2025 India's November 11, 2025 Current Affairs: Red Fort Blast, Severe Delhi Air Quality, and Bihar Elections

India witnessed a significant 24-hour period marked by a major security incident in the capital, deteriorating environmental conditions, and ongoing democratic processes. A car blast near Delhi's Red Fort Metro Station, killing at least 13 people, has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a terror probe. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality plunged to a "severe" category, prompting emergency measures and public outcry. The second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly elections concluded with a substantial voter turnout. Additionally, India engaged in a joint military exercise with Sri Lanka and saw the inauguration of a national watershed management festival.

Delhi Rocked by Red Fort Blast, NIA Takes Over Terror Probe

A powerful car explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday evening resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people and left several injured. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has officially handed over the investigation into the blast to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), signaling that the incident is being treated as an act of terror. The NIA is mandated to probe terror-related cases, indicating the gravity with which the government views the explosion.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a Hyundai i20 car, packed with explosives, was deliberately detonated. Reports allege that a doctor from Pulwama drove the vehicle and is linked to a terror module in Faridabad, where a significant cache of explosives, including 2,900 kg of explosives and 360 kg of ammonium nitrate, was seized. This incident has led to heightened security alerts across Delhi, including at the airport, metro, and railway stations.

Delhi's Air Quality Deteriorates to 'Severe' Category, Emergency Measures Implemented

India's capital, New Delhi, is grappling with a severe air pollution crisis, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) sharply rose to 425, placing it in the "severe" category for the first time this season. This hazardous air quality has prompted authorities to implement emergency measures under the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

These measures include advising elementary schools to switch to online classes, banning construction activities, and encouraging residents to work from home. The severe pollution has also triggered public protests and prompted health warnings for vulnerable individuals to consider leaving the city if possible. Medical experts have noted a rise in respiratory and heart problems among Delhi residents, particularly children, the elderly, and those with chronic diseases.

Bihar Assembly Elections Conclude Final Phase with High Voter Turnout

The second and final phase of the Bihar Assembly elections took place on Tuesday, November 11, across 122 constituencies in approximately 20 districts. The polling witnessed a robust voter turnout of over 67%, with 1,302 candidates vying for seats.
